These modern carpets which are made traditionally at the border area of Afghanistan and Pakistan are an authentic simulation of the carpets which were expelled by the British-Swiss company called Ziegler in the 19th century.

The company Ziegler had their head office in Manchester (England). They founded approx. 1880 their own weaving mill in Mahal and exported handknotted oriental carpets to europe and america.

Today this type of oriental carpet are handknotted at the border area of Afghanistan and Pakistan. In Afghanistan the infrastructure is not available to wash the finished handknotted oriental carpets and to improve them. Because of this the Ziegler oriental carpets are brought to Lahore (Pakistan). There they are washed without chemical materials and improved. Immediatley after the completion Ziegler oriental carpets are exported mainly to europe and overseas.

The characteristic feature of these Ziegler oriental carpets is their pile.
100% hand spun Ghazni new wool with a very high fat content makes this carpet quality very resistant, durable and dirt resistant. With a knot density of approx. 220.000 knots per square meter the weight corresponds approx. 2.8 kg per square meter. The chain is made of cotton. These handknotted Ziegler oriental carpets have a carpet hight of approx. 0.3 to 0.5 and the traditionell fringes have a length of approx 0.3 to 0.5 cm.

Ziegler oriental carpets are coloured only with plant colours and are washed and improved without the use of chemical materials. Through this the Ziegler oriental carpet receives its unique semi-antique appearance.

The unusual success of these Ziegler oriental carpets goes back to their ingenious colours and designs. The classic main colour is maize-yellow. For the ornamtes or florale design are often traditionally strong colours used like blue, brown, red or maize-yellow used.

The subdued and harmonious colour gradations make it possible to use these Ziegler oriental carpets in a many ways of device types.
